Below is a chart of the tasks we just reviewed, with a standard operating procedure that a finance advisor frequently will encounter.  Each SOP is related to the specific financial task, as it also relates to various other roles within a university. Many SOPs can be listed within each task section, as many could apply.

 Welcome and monthly calls; introducing financial policy and procedure with selected finance option.


Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Appeal: Similar to the student appeal that an individual goes through on the academic side, the SAP appeal is specific to the financial department.  This does tie in the academic advisor as in some cases appeals in both departments occur together. 

Managing Student Accounts

  • Balance collection
  • Responsible Borrowing 
  • Course clearance; also pulling in the academic advisor to change the schedule when a student is not clear for an upcoming course.
  • Payment plans

 Federal Financial Aid

  • FAFSA and FAW walkthrough
  • Corrections to financial aid applications
  • Certification for student to receive loans and grants
